finland finland finland

This post is not going to be about Kemialliset Ystävät. Everyone knows that shit.

I've been working on a finland-related assignment and in the process turned up some real marvels. It's all pretty experimental/psych/free-folk but some of it is all like HELL YEAH FINLAND. Ya know?

Reverend Bizarre & Rättö Ja Lehtisalo - Reverend Bizarre & Rättö Ja Lehtisalo EP (2008)
(HELL YEAH FINLAND)
Eleanoora Rosenholm - Vainajan Muotokuva
(delicious vocals/fun)
Joose Keskitalo - Tule Minun Luokseni, Kulta
(singer-songwriter/folk)
Tv-resistori - Serkut Rakastaa Paremmin
(synthy/fun)
Lau Nau - Nukkuu (2008)
(kinda soothing in a droney finnish kinda way)
Es - Kes maan Lapset
(ears hurt a little/ all over the place)
Islaja - Palaa Aurinkoon
(less delicious vocals)
Kuupuu - Unilintu
(droney/ experimental)

Start from the top and work your way down. Enjoy.

I will be updating as I continue to delve into this brave new frontier. Promise.

WALRUS IN FLIGHT

Walrus in Flight is Rohan Ledger AKA Rowan Ledger AKA SergeantLedge AKA DICKS EVERYWHERE AKA !FacHdjTJN

It's also an intricate/ambient/notambient/innovative/soothing/invigorating side project (NB: His other projects suck don't even think about looking into sclera)

Dicks got really peeved that I upped his music cause he's a struggling artist and all so I'm taking it down. You can still listen/download on last.fm the rest you'll have to buy. (If you're the sort of person who has money it's worth it)

~Update: he's probably over it by now so imma just post this anyway http://www.mediafire.com/?zyzymiymig2

The only album art I've found has been frikkin tiny so here, have a picture of dicks' computer

(expect an update)

Big Blood Superpost over at The Real Nitty Gritty

Last week Big Blood, AKA the best music there is, requested on their new blog dont trust the ruin that someone help them upload their music. The Real Nitty Gritty heard their call and didn't stop helping until they'd uploaded their entire discography (on the NittyGritty blog, posted on March 12).

Oh the joy that this band gives me.
Fun Fact: I once compiled a compilation of my favourite Big Blood songs for a CD for a friend, but they added up to over three hours.

From last.fm:

"Rising from the ashes of Cerberus Shoal, Big Blood, the phantom four piece of Asian Mae, Caleb Mulkerin, Rose Philistine and Colleen Kinsella perform only as a duo. An intimate team, walking blind through each other’s songs presenting one of a kind recordings tailor-made to the night’s performance."

Big Blood is two fifths of everyone in Fire on Fire.

Preview the downloads at their Myspace page BigBlood24. A song on there called 'Vitman C' might be the perfect introduction to music in general.

Mumrik - To Steal a Picture

Mumrik is from Berlin. He is in cahoots with the likes of Turner Cody, Andre Herman Düne and Jeffrey Lewis. And like these musicians his music is deeply personal and warm.

"'To Steal a Picture' drifts in and out of sentimentality with interludes of playfulness". That is all I have to say on the matter. Except that the song 'Bob Ross Sky' is probably the closest you'll get to real nostalgia nowadays.

I've included the demo 'When I'm Dead', which was written by Aaron Löwinger. It is a very good song in my books.

Edit, dawgs: Jan, who happens to be Mumrik, sends album art.

Red Favorite

Slightly droney acoustic guitar layering, ambling effects and percussion with almost singing. Good.
